The Pennsylvania Hunger Action Center supports
the statewide network of groups and individuals working to end hunger
in our Commonwealth. The Center's "tool kit" includes the following
resources:
- Public policy advocates who add a Harrisburg dimension to regional
and local efforts to achieve food security for all Pennsylvanians;
- Periodic newsletters, legislative alerts, and policy studies containing
information to help anti-hunger groups effectively advance food security
objectives;
- A statewide Food Stamp Screening and Enrollment Line (1-800-634-2033)
to help people in need connect to nutritious food;
- Practical and up-to-date information for individuals, congregations
and community groups that are helping friends and neighbors make the
transition from welfare to self-sufficiency;
- Seminars, conferences and opportunities to join forces with other
antihunger organizations including food banks, advocacy groups, religious
and educational institutions.
Established in 1978, the Center is a statewide, nonprofit organization
supported financially by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and
Economic Development and by private foundations, religious bodies, businesses
and individuals.
